In recent years, federal and state legislators have demanded the courts to pass a policy called the No Frills Act, which prohibits any form of weightlifting, sport, and recreational activities in prisons. Although no federal legislation has been passed, a handful of states have allowed for this policy to take over their prison systems and destroy any positive rehabilitation methods that the prisons may have implemented through sports and exercise. Much research has proven that sports and exercise are very beneficial to the rehabilitative process that prisoners must undergo for them to properly reenter society.
This website explains the studies that criminologists, sociologists, and journalists have conducted to determine the positive effects that sports have on prison inmates' behaviors, inmates can learn to reenter society, and how crime rates and recidivism rates could potentially decrease due to the love for a sport. |
